Upcoming events & activations in public spaces and note parking closures. *Details subject to change on short notice.  

Beanstalk Bistro – Outdoor Activation – July 3 – September 6 
Saturday & Sundays 12pm-4pm 

Beanstalk Bistro of the Kids Market will be set up outside in the Plaza next to the duck pond, behind the Kids Market every weekend until the end of August, with an outdoor pop-up vending tent. 

Canoe Cultures  
August 23 - September 5: 11am – 6pm daily 

Ocean Art Works - 1531 Johnston St 

Visit Ocean Art Works while Carvers from Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Snuneymuxw First Nations honour the strong cultural connection the canoe has to the lands and the waters.  Carvers will be working on their newest design, a cedar strip family canoe. They will also be working on paddles and other associated art work. As part of the Canoe Culture Program, Lead Carver Mike Billy Sr. addresses the cultural transmission of Indigenous knowledge from one generation to the next. Artists include Mike Billy, Michael Billy, Barrett Martin, and Alvin Martin Jr. Visit Canoecultures.com to find out more.  

Vancouver International Flamenco Festival – Aficionado Stage  
September 4th & 5th 11am -4pm 

Picnic Pavilion - 267 Old Bridge Walk 

The Vancouver International Flamenco Festival’s 31st edition presents its 2021 lineup of local and national flamenco artists September 4 – 26. The festival starts off with two days of free performances at the Picnic Pavilion on Labour Day weekend 11am-4pm, and indoor shows at the Waterfront theatre September 23rd - 26th.  

   Reserved Parking: All of Waterfront Theatre parking lot will be reserved, all day on September 4th & 5th.  If you are a tenant of Festival House, Kids Market or Waterfront Theatre and are expecting deliveries during either of these days please let us know.  

Private Event September 4th 
Performance Works & Ron Basford Park - 1218 Cartwright St  

A private wedding will be held at Ron Basford Park and Performance Works. The event will extend a patio license to the outdoor stage area at Performance Works. Access to the sidewalk in between Ron Basford Park and the venue may be impacted. 

   Reserved Parking: (6) Spots will be blocked in between the Granville Island Hotel and Performance Works 

Zoo Day – Sept 5th, 12:30pm and 1:30pm 
Plaza Behind the Kids Market 1496 Cartwright St 

Kids Market is hosting a Zoo day with the Greater Vancouver Zoo. Each show will be a 30 min educational speech about specific animals. One pop up tent will be set up outside of the Kids Market in the public plaza. 

Vancouver International Fringe Festival  

The 2021 Vancouver Fringe Festival is a hybrid festival. Local, national and international artists bring you 15 in-person shows and 17 digital offerings that showcase their resilience and that theatre is here to stay. There also be workshops and special events, including Opening Night on September 8 and Closing Night on September 19. Please visit their website for programming and ticket information. 

The following Outdoor Public spaces & Parking spaces will be affected: 

Picnic Pavilion, Waterfront Theatre Lot and Performance Works 
  • September 6-22 - (4) Reserved parking spots in the Waterfront Theatre parking lot 
  • September 6-20 -  Vehicle Access to the Waterfront Theatre Loading bay will be restricted 
  • September 7-20 - The Picnic Pavilion will be closed to the public, and will host 4 Fringe Plays. The venue will be activated every day from approximately 3pm-10pm, with varying daily schedules.  
  • September 7-20 - (2) Reserved parking spots in front of Performance Works 

Ron Basford Park and Alder Bay 

A roving musical theatre performance will be taking place between Sutcliffe Park and Performance Works during the dates and times listed below. Audiences and actors will travel down the board walk in small groups, and pop-up performances will occur on the grassy park during various times within the timelines listed below. Pedestrian access to the boardwalk may be impeded during times, but not fully restricted. Audience members will watch the performances from the grass. Noise impacts to surrounding businesses will be minimal, during daytime hours. 

  • September 8: 5pm-10pm 
  • September 10, 11, 16 & 19:  6:30pm-10pm
