May Public Space Activations
Crafted Vancouver: May 1-25, varying times
Crafted Vancouver is an annual 25-day celebration that presents and advances outstanding local, Canadian and International craftsmanship and creativity through a curated program of events taking place in venues throughout Metro Vancouver & the Fraser Valley. This year they debut six official Creative Districts, each with its own unique character and identity; Armoury District, Chinatown, Gastown, Granville Island Artisans, Parker Street Studios | Mergatroid Building, & Railtown. Due to the ongoing event restrictions, the 2021 Craft Vancouver festival will not feature Spotlight Days or specialized events.
Circle Craft, Silk Weaving Studio, and Craft Council BC will be participating with in-store art installations, and/or virtual offerings. Interested in participating in future years? Please visit Crafted Vancouver to find out more information on how to connect with the event.
Past Echoes in the Present: May 24-31, all day
New Works Performance Society will be installing an open-air gallery exhibit on Granville Island, which will provide a platform for local self-identifying Asian dance and visual artists to share their work with the public in recognition of Asian Heritage Month. Participating artists will be announced later in May through New Works social media. The multimedia installations will be compilation of dance films and printed images from past performances.
Participating locations include: Waterfront Theatre, Carousel Studios, Arts Club Theatre, Ocean Art Works outdoor gallery space, and unoccupied retail spaces: 1420 Bridge St and 1345 Railspur Alley.
The gallery will be open to the public all day between May 24th and May 31st.

Canada Day 2021: Update
Due to the ongoing restrictions and limitations that are in place for gatherings and events, CMHC Granville Island is unable to produce the island-wide celebration series for July 1st, 2021. See the Provincial Health Order in place for any gathering or event over 10 people. This restriction is currently in place until May 25th, 2021, and it is uncertain if the restrictions on events will be relaxed in time for smaller in-person events on July 1st.
The TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival will return to Granville Island June 25th-July 4th and will be providing a virtual festival with over 100 streamed concerts. Supported by CMHC-Granville Island, the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society will host a full day of virtual programming on July 1st, available to the public, in celebration of O Canada Day. More details to come, closer to the event.
