Petition against resumption of paid parking for tenants

As many merchants and the island as a whole are suffering due to the loss of tourists and mandated health orders, a petition has been started by David McCann to stop the resumption of paid parking for those working on Granville Island

Before this gets barried, my name is Lou Ann Mendoza (GIBCA secretary/Membership coordinator). I speak for neither GIBCA nor the organization I work for. However, in my two years on the GIBCA exec, nothing has taken more discussion time then parking, which as someone who used to walk to work completely mystified me. But I now realize that parking is the one thing everyone has in common whether commercial, non-profit or solo enterprise. And everyone's needs are different: for vendors who have elderly customers the lack of available parking at any price is an issue. For people who need to get on/off the island quickly the traffic jams cause problems. And for those whose business has been decimated by Covid-19 the expense is prohibitive for staff. A one-solution-fits all does not work. Creative effort is needed. Plus this is the one way CMHC can help everyone who uses the island that they may not have direct contact with.
